Change is in the Air
April 20, 2008

You may have noticed a difference in BiblioBuffet’s look. It may not have been enough to make you say, “Hey, you changed it,” but I would bet you at least scratched your head and wondered what was different.

The changes are the first of several to come. First and most importantly, the descriptions of the new issue previously found in this letter are now on the home page under each column name. If you like what you read there, click on the column name to go straight to the full column. Another home page change is above the TOC (Table of Contents), Four drop-down menus provide quick access to the rest of the pages. And to the right of the logo, the three “A” symbols represent the size of the font. If you need it larger, click on the largest one; if you prefer a smaller size, choose the tiny “A.” (The center one is the default.)

Another alteration is that each editor’s letter will have a title in addition to the date, which should make them more interesting as well as making it easier to locate in the archives. Though it is part of a future project, the archives themselves are going to be completely revised to make them easier to browse. In addition, the pages under “Books & More Books” will be increased to both break out some of the current material and to add new material. Since there are too many good ones to fit easily on one page, our links of book-related web sites and book-related blogs will be separated. There will also be a full page of writers’ resources, another for bookish shopping and one for humor as well as other intriguing pages.

If you have any suggestions for additional pages or changes to the current pages, please do contact me with your ideas. BiblioBuffet is for you, our readers, and I want to make the site reflect the community that supports it.

This week . . .
Check out the site that brings Samuel Pepys, the celebrated diarist (and womanizer), to life in magnificent detail: The Diary of Samuel Pepys: Daily Entries from the 17th Century London Diary. Over the course of several years beginning on January 1, 2003, Phil Gyford has posted a diary entry of Pepys. It is a beautifully designed site with numerous links to Pepys’ time, events, currency, temperature and much more. The diary entries are short and perfect for daily reading (although the welcomed links could lengthen the time required).

Until next week, read well, read often and read on!

Lauren
